Goat farming

The Dutch goat’s milk sector is a relatively young but fast-growing agricultural sector. In the past few years this sector has developed into a serious, professional sector with huge market potential. After the historically leading countries in the area of goat’s milk production such as France, Greece, and Spain, the Netherlands is the fourth European country in order of importance.

By implementing the milk quota in 1984, the commercial milking of goats has received an enormous impulse. This growth in the past 20 years has led to 150 million litres of goat’s milk being produced in 2007 by 350 farms with milking goats.

Bettinehoeve gets milk from about 50 goat farmers. Most of these goat farmers are located in the South or South West Netherlands. These farms are professionally run with a high level of attention to the quality of the milk. This is of course an important basis for Bettinehoeve to be able to produce high quality products.
